Is Airbag SRS light an MOT fail 2022
It’s so frustrating when you got an MOT due in a few days and your Airbag or SRS light is on.
We waste so much time Googling ways to get around the airbag light or even worse buy a cheap scanner that doesn’t even have the special facilities to read the SRS airbag codes. Don’t go down this rabbit hole I have been there before.
From my experience simply clearing the codes usually does the trick and potently saves you £1000’s in diagnostic fees and fault finding. The Autel scanner is the best I have used for SRS and airbag faults.
Form testing 100s of scanners on Airbag and SRS faults we highly rate the Autel Diaglink which has over 1000 5 star reviews. Most if not all other scanners below this price range will NOT scan SRS or Airbag faults and only do some car brands.
This scanner reads and clears all systems (EPB/SBC, ABS, SRS, engine) trouble codes, turns off the ECU and brake warning light, set brake pad thickness and open/close brake callipers, oil/inspection/service Light reset.
This OBD2 scanner is the cheapest on the market that works with all cars and has special functions that can read and clear SRS and Airbag faults!
Is it possible for your vehicle to pass its MOT with the airbag light or SRS on?
NO, it will fail; if your airbag light is on or your SRS warning lamp is illuminated, it will fail its MOT. It’s outlined in section 7.1.5 and 7.1.6 of the handbook and is a major failure. You can also attempt to reset the airbag or SRS warning light to see if that helps resolve the issue.
What is an Airbag Light or SRS light and How Do I Repair It?
An airbag light or SRS warning lamp is the vehicle’s way of letting you know there is a problem with your car’s safety. It might be a faulty airbag, switch, or sensor. It’s hard to tell what it is without using an OBD2 scanner to scan your car. The warning light may be easily repaired. The most typical airbag fault is when you recline the front seats and the connector shifts, which merely needs to be reset.

I have been a Mechanic for over 25 years in the trade! I have used most if not all OBD2 scanners from expensive to cheap brands. I have worked for Mercedes, BMW and Honda before I started my own car diagnostic business. Now I run a successful car diagnostic business and train other mechanics how to diagnose faults with all types of cars.
